We will try to put here in “simple” words on some of the Ayurvedic philosophies that explain the origin of life and existence.
Creation began with an interplay of energies. At the beginning, there was ether, which is everywhere. So it is everything, and nothing at the same time, because it is emptiness. Ether, or space relates to the sound, it is the OM sound of creation. Ether is the most subtle energy, we can only hear it.
According to the Big-Bang theory, from that sound came the air element. Air is also very subtle and has most of the attributes of ether, except that it has movement. We can touch that energy that is air, we can feel it.
As air has movement, there is a molecular friction between the air and the ether, and that friction creates a spark, it creates fire. Fire is still very subtle, but we can see it. Think about it, we cannot see ether or air…. unless air is loaded with the water element which makes clouds. Therefore the fire relates to sight or vision.
From that interplay between the 3 elements, ether, air, and fire, there is a condensation process which gives birth to the water element. We can taste the water, it is a much denser form of energy. Water relates to the sense of taste.
The interplay between the 4 elements, ether, air, fire and water goes on, from cold to hot temperature, hard to soft, dry to liquid, all that becomes solidified, creating the most dense form of energy, the earth element. The earth element relates to the sense of smell.
From that theory, Ayurveda works on the five elements Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth and their qualities to bring balance for ultimate health, happiness and awareness!
This philosophy has been taught by my teacher in Ayurveda, Dr Zide Mooni.
